Death

Apparently 12 year-olds on Yahoo forums have more emotional maturity than I do.

I had a day where two acquaintances of mine had loves ones who passed away, and I needed to say something comforting.

I did a google search, and everyone suggested, “My condolences” or “I’m sorry for your loss.” I don’t like the first because it feels like something a man in a suit would say if he heard about what happened but didn’t want to talk to you.

The 2nd just feels sad. It’s like you’re reiterating the feeling of them losing someone. I asked my husband for help, and he reassured me that the people I’m writing the messages to are going to feel bad no matter what, so it doesn’t really matter. Then he suggested writing,

“I’m sure everybody is saying this, but I heard about what happened and I’m sorry for your loss. I lost my hamster once. I was really sad. It must feel something like that, except much worse because it’s a person”

I sided with Yahoo forums and stated, “I’m sorry for your loss.”
